Light is the quiet protagonist in Cassandra Bohne-L’s paintings.
A Houston-based oil and acrylic artist with more than twenty-five years of experience, Cassandra creates atmospheric works that transform nature into metaphor. After stepping away from a corporate career to devote herself to family and studio practice, her artistic voice deepened into something more intentional, more contemplative, and more fearless.
Her paintings explore moonlit skies, sculptural trees, atmospheric landscapes, and radiant blossoms — recurring motifs that act as metaphors for resilience, passage, and quiet strength. Rather than document the natural world, Cassandra transforms it. Light becomes narrative. Color becomes emotion. Each composition invites the viewer into a suspended moment — a dreamlike space where stillness carries power and beauty feels eternal.
Working primarily in oil and acrylic, she builds layered surfaces that glow with movement and depth. Her trees stand as sentinels of endurance. Her skies feel infinite. Life, in its fragility and quiet resilience, is the foundation of my work. I am drawn to moments of transformation — the threshold between what was and what will be. The butterfly, suspended between earth and air, has become my enduring symbol of that passage.
I began painting in oils and acrylics in my early twenties, exploring themes of light, growth, and renewal. Over time, my fascination with transformation led me beyond the canvas and into the preservation of real butterflies — not as specimens, but as reverent witnesses to nature’s most poetic evolution.
Each of my butterfly clocks unites life and time — two forces that shape every human experience. The preserved butterfly becomes both artifact and offering: a delicate reminder that beauty is fleeting, yet capable of transcendence. Encased within the structure of a clock, the butterfly exists in tension with time — no longer subject to decay, yet forever symbolizing change.
In a world increasingly disconnected from nature, and where environmental fragility is undeniable, I work exclusively with sustainably sourced specimens. Preservation, for me, is not exploitation — it is stewardship. My intention is to honor these creatures while creating heirloom pieces that outlive us.
My work invites reflection on mortality, resurrection, legacy, and the sacredness of transformation. I create for collectors who understand that art is not decoration — it is witness. It marks time. It holds memory. It becomes inheritance.
Through my art, I seek to suspend a moment of metamorphosis — and make it eternal.
